Fall Canadian Cruise - Day 11-15

New York City

Day 11-15 - New York, third day

Third of four days in New York City. It's impossible to compare the hustle and bustle of here with the quiet, relaxing 10 days on the cruise ship. It's like going from a peaceful walk in a forest to a slam-bang, full rave with too many people.

it's wonderful.

Let's go back to our cruise ship for  moment.

We lived out of this tiny bathroom for almost 2 weeks with no problems flip-flopping with Wendy.

The shower is on the right and the toilet is on the left and both with less space than this sink area.

Notice Wendy's Kabuki Bag hanging on the door towel rack, a third of her stuff is on the shelf.  The rest stayed in her bag.

I divided all my stuff in three see-through pouches, First Aid, Medicine and Toiletries. The first two pouches I leave in my luggage until needed.

I went thru several types of pouches, from smaller, cloth and now see-thru to minimize space and never needing to unpack it out of it's pouch. Wendy now has all the space she needs.

This way she will keep me a little longer as a watch dog and now as a comfort animal.

Back to the ship

At my age I'm still learning things about traveling.

With all the hard-earned travel tips shared over the past two weeks - here's a new one from last night.

Slip a charged, spare cell phone battery in your pocket or carry-all.

My phone died last night cause I didn't have a spare battery with me. Three spares were sitting in the hotel room.

If you have an iPhone and can't change the battery, carry a small battery pack. They work great and will recharge your iPhone or other cell to 100%.

Lesson learned!

Packing Extra Juice

Here we go again. Yesterday we went on the Downtown and now we are on the Uptown Hop On - Hop Off bus.

Temperature is at 40 degrees, wind not as brisk as yesterday. My 4 layers kept my body barely bearable.  My hands, ears and foot were frozen.

We are going around Central Park, Harlem and Museum road.

Everyone wanted to not sit on the open top level to stay warm...wrong.  In NYC, you cannot let Mother Nature rob you of seeing all of her.  You need to look up as well as out.  It is getting there that will make us appreciate why we come all this way to see it all.

We had planned to come back to Rockefeller Center tomorrow but changed our minds and we're back today.

It's still cold.

That is why we rode the top deck in the open air, again. You do not want to leave feeling short changed and blame it on her. The tougher the going gets the more you will remember the adventure.

Every where we have gone, we always have to decide to do it or not due to comfort.  Prepare for it and do it! Charge that hill! Hoo-rah!

Hot coffee and croissants at a cafe next to Rockefeller Center. It's still cold.

Going through Harlem and past the famous Apollo Theater.

The temperature has dropped to 40-degrees. Two degrees more and it'll set a record for lowest of the season.

Lovin' this upper deck open-air bus.

Crusin' past Trump Plaza. We stayed here our first time in NYC. It's right across from Central Park.

We didn't see The Donald.

Radio City Music Hall. Home of the Rocketts and many fabulous shows.

Bet it's warm inside.

It's a bit surprising to find a pumpkin patch in the middle of the Big Apple. I guess it shouldn't be since NYC has everything...but still.

Saks 5th Avenue. If you look carefully you can spot the two hungry shoppers planning their assault.

Maybe Wendy would believe my saying I left my wallet in the hotel...?

Iconic and great on a cold day. Something that makes New York, New York.

If you ever watch Seinfeld on TV you should recognize this place.

You don't find a place like this often outside New York City.

We roll into day 4 in the big city. Time to start thinking of going home.

5:30 - time for dinner. We decided on Thalia - a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

American food and sushi and the flounder was great.

Cost was reasonable by New York standards and the service was excellent.

After dinner it was a 2 minute stroll to see Chicago on Broadway. We saw it years ago but still enjoyed it again.

Opening in 1996, it holds the record as the longest-running musical revival and longest-running American musical in Broadway history. It is the second longest-running show in Broadway history behind Phantom of the Opera with over 8,000 performances.

It's about wives murdering their husbands and getting away with it. Now I'll have to sleep with one eye open.

Autumn is arriving and on the mainland that means the leaves are starting to change color.

What better time for a cruise to check it out.

RHS'69 Reunion chair Vincent Yim and his wife Wendy are off cruising eastern Canada and U.S. to watch the leaves turn for Autumn.
