Fall Canadian Cruise - Day 11-15

New York City

Day 11-15 - New York, New York that toddlin' town

New York City the most populous city in the United States with an estimated population of almost 9-million.

The site of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that brought down the Twin Towers of the original World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan.

Anchored by Wall Street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City has been called both the most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world. The United Nations is also based in the city.

The pair of earphones on the left is what the airlines give to listen to music or watch a movies. They are passable.

Invest $48 and get an enhanced earphone with noise reduction and volume control.  Once you get one you will never use the one the airline gives you.

The noise reduction will remove most of the airplane engine noise and you will have a much clearer and enjoyable time...and less fatigue.

Some people will bring those big and bulky Bose earphones. Too big and too expensive.

Hear Better, Be Happier

Pick Pocket is a common crime in all major cities.

Us guys always have our wallet in our back pocket. This is the easiest place to pick. If your shirt is tucked in and your butt pocket is exposed, even easier.

If you will not change this bad habit, stuff a map, brochure or paperwork in with your wallet and pull your shirt or jacket over your pants pockets. Button your pocket.

Outside zipper compartments are a no no. My draw string back pack is near impossible to open without me knowing. Do Not dedicate a single zipper pouch on your purse or pack for your most valuable article.

Like my pants back pocket, stuff in paperwork with your wallet. Don't make it easy for the picker to unzip and grab. With other stuff they have to feel and sort.

If it is inconvenient for you to pull out your wallet it will also be for the picker. My nylon back pack is easy for them to razor cut and pick. Find one with a inside zipper pouch that goes mid way down.

Stay safe.

Stay out of my pants

Yes - the picture's a bit shaky from the ship.

We have landed in New York City. We spent 11 days visiting the New England countryside then wake up to all this steel and concrete.

NYC - Wow!

Time to say goodbye to our home for the past almost two weeks. Onward into the city.

Got off our ship, jumped into a taxi, got checked into our hotel, hotel gave us early check in.

Our hotel is less than 100 yards away from the heart of Times Square.

After checking into the Hotel Edison, on West 47th and 8th Avenue, we went back out to get familiar with the neighborhood.

We covered 8 blocks surrounding our hotel.  When we reached 6th Avenue, the entire street were closed to traffic.  They were having a block party and as far as the eyes can see there were hundreds of booths. Food, crafts, souvenirs and more food.

Biggest Block Party I ever saw.

Trying to decide what to eat...turkey drumsticks, BBQ chicken or Mexican.  We ended up at an old fashioned sit down cafe for New York Pizza, thin crust.

Our first meal in New York.

Coming up - the second of four days in the city. Sightseeing, a play and who knows what.

Told them, sorry, but they were out of monkey brains.

We decided to have Chinese for our first dinner in NYC. It was the Chinese River on 44th Street. It used to be called Sichuan Manor but it changed its name. Yelp names it one of the 10 best Chinese restaurants in the city.

The Dinner

The lettuce wraps were excellent. The pork dim sum was ok. The breaded scallops were the best.

Then came the flaming Tilapia, it was spicy Hot. I think we all lost more hair.

I did not tell anyone, I ordered the pig's brains. It has the texture of tofu and Wendy liked it.

Yea, I know...eewwww.

Autumn is arriving and on the mainland that means the leaves are starting to change color.

What better time for a cruise to check it out.

RHS'69 Reunion chair Vincent Yim and his wife Wendy are off cruising eastern Canada and U.S. to watch the leaves turn for Autumn.
