Fall Canadian Cruise - Day 11-15

New York City

Day 11-15 - New York, second day

Day two in the Big Apple, the city that never sleeps. New York is one place where you can always find something going on...something to do...whatever the hour.

Hands off your stuff

Whenever you are traveling with a group, have someone be the watch dog. Have the dog follow the group a couple steps behind.

When we are with friends, we tend to focus on the group and not on the surroundings. Believe me, the potential pick pocket will notice you have a dog and will leave your group alone.

When we were in Venice, I was the Dog.  I saw a team of Gypsies and I look them in the eye and smiled. I told my group to watch out. They thought I was watching too much detective movies.

An hour and half later we sat at a street cafe, having a drink and witnessed the team in action. One of the ladies holding the hand of a little child surrounding a couple, window shopping and the child was trying to pick the purse.

They were not successful. The lady and child then walked across the Square to join the group. The same group I told to watch out.

My group promoted me from dog to Head of Security and I became their best friend.

Yup, it's Times Square.

This morning we were first in line for the Hop On - Hop Off bus. It's a windy 48-degrees and we were sitting on the top of the double decker open roof bus. (see the picture)

We bundled up with four layers for what little good it did.

Our first stop, of course, the Empire State Building. It's the must see for NY visitors.

Open deck bus. 48-degrees and windy.

Four layers of clothes. It's still damn COLD.

We must be crazy.

Our first look at the majestic One World Tower.

One Trade Tower from Liberty Street.

The beautiful and very touching pools of Ground Zero behind us.

Inside the One Trade Center is a shopping center and subway.

A unique and beautiful building.

Rockefeller Center - famous for its winter ice skating rink.

We plan to return Tuesday to walk around. Hopefully it'll be warmer. cause it's too cold for us pineapples.

After the show...dinner and we decided Italian.

Bond 45 is highly rated Italian Steakhouse, Seafood Restaurant and Prohibition Bar in Times Square.

Below is a picture of us taking a picture of us taking a picture in the mirror.

Late afternoon and one does not visit New York City without hitting Broadway and catching a show. We saw Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. The lead actor and singer looks and sings just like her.

King's career began in the 1960s when she and her first husband, Gerry Goffin, wrote more than two dozen big chart hits, many of which have become standards, for numerous artists.

Here's just a few: It's Too Late, You've Got A Friend, I Feel the Earth Move, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, Up on the Roof, Don't Say Nothin' Bad (About My Baby), Hey Girl, It Might as Well Rain Until September, The Loco-Motion, Some Kind of Wonderful, Will You Love Me Tomorrow and dozens more. What a talented lady!

Here's a sampling from the show...

It's been a long day and the battery on my cell phone is dead, so that wraps up any more pictures.

Something is telling me two things - it's time to pack it in, and write a new Travel Tip: always carry an extra, charged battery for your phone.

See you tomorrow.

Tomorrow - day 3 of our 4 days in New York City.

Autumn is arriving and on the mainland that means the leaves are starting to change color.

What better time for a cruise to check it out.

RHS'69 Reunion chair Vincent Yim and his wife Wendy are off cruising eastern Canada and U.S. to watch the leaves turn for Autumn.
